As well as familiar things like solar panels and a wind turbine, the centre also uses heat exchangers to capture the energy of the sun as it warms the Brancaster mud flats.
School groups staying at the centre monitor their environmental impact, recording their use of resources, recycling materials wherever possible and composting waste food. Using computers, they can record their results, conduct further research and create diaries of their stay.
