A strategy for the conservation of soil has been adopted, as has an energy policy. The Trust has invested considerably in improving standards of property management for sewage treatment, control of farm effluents and water conservation. Most recently, the Trust has pioneered research into peat-free compost, culminating in the launch of its own commercial product.
One of the particular areas of environmental concern for the Trust is the coastline of England and Wales. Recently, the Trust has added its voice to the Marine Charter, a call for reform of law and policies relating to the seas around Britain, aimed at protecting their ecology and the social and economic needs of people whose lives depend on them. The charter has been produced by Wildlife and Countryside Link, and you can view it in PDF format here.
Further information about the Trust's views on environmental issues and sustainability can be found here.
